Wednesday's learn and earn...

~WORD OF THE DAY~

meshuggener  \muh-SHUG-uhner\ ~ noun

DEFINITION: a foolish or crazy person

EXAMPLES: Alex wondered what kind of meshuggener would be foolish enough to buy bonds from a known scam artist.

"'Take no notice,' she said…. 'The man's a meshuggener.'" -- From Howard Jacobson's 2010 novel The Finkler Question

DID YOU KNOW? From "bagel" and "chutzpah" to "shtick" and "yenta," Yiddish has given English many a colorful term over the years. "Meshuggener" is another example of what happens when English interprets that rich Jewish language. "Meshuggener" comes from the Yiddish "meshugener," which in turn derives from "meshuge," an adjective that is synonymous with "crazy" or "foolish." English speakers have used the adjective form, "meshuga" or "meshugge," to mean "foolish" since the late 1800s; we've dubbed foolish folk "meshuggeners" since at least 1900.

~THE REBATE~

Spring is a great time to check the air filter in your furnace.  Right now 3M is offering a couple of rebates on their replacement filters.  The first one is $3.00 back for purchasing a single Filtrete High Performance Air Filter with a 1500 Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR) or greater, the other rebate is $6.00 back when you purchase three Filtrete Air Filters with a 1000 Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR) or greater.  Both rebates require the purchase be made before June 30, 2011.

Remember to sign up for the swap as well, so far we have three folks signed up.  The swap is simple, think about where you live and with a budget of at least $10 purchase something that represents where you are, package it up with a postcard from your city or state and mail it off to a person the pair you up with.

Hope you are all having a great week!

  1. I heard that word A LOT when I lived out East.
This is a good reminder to ask Roy if we need to change our filters.
I want to wait to sign up for the swap to see if you need an extra to round it out. I think it would be a fun swap to be in!

I love to read your comments, but due to spamming I have had to turn on the word verification again. Sorry for the extra step.
