My husband took this picture last year after a high wind off of Lake Superior.  The ice coats everything and makes it all look surreal.  After yesterdays storm we are going to go out and see if we can get some new cool shots of winter.

We have had large flocks of Pine Siskins and Red Poles at our feeders lately and I have been trying like crazy to get a good picture of them, the problem is that they are super fast.  I have been getting a lot of pictures of snow or blurred wings at the edge of the frame.  When I was scrolling through yet another 50 pictures taken out back you can imagine my laughter when I came across this picture near the end of on of the little Red Poles doing a face plant to get a seed stuck in the snow.

We just got back from a wonderful vacation in Williamsburg Virginia and we can't wait to go back, there is something for both of us since my husband really enjoys the woods and fishing and I love all things history and cultural.  On one of our visits to the Colonial section of Williamsburg I got a shot of this horse and rider headed down the Palace Green headed towards the Governor's Palace.  It was so much fun to feel like you are a part of history there!

I saw this little grey tree frog early last month sunning on my lilacs.  I hear them all the time but because they can camouflage themselves depending on their surroundings I rarely see them.  The can change color like a chameleon but much slower.  This one is a boy, he has a grey throat, females have white throats.

This is a shot looking straight down at a very large paper weight that is part of the Arthur Rubloff Collection at the Chicago Art Institute.  "Glass paperweights became popular in the mid-19th century when the establishment of a dependable mail service led to an increase in letter writing and a demand for writing products."  This collection is so impressive, I spent almost an hour looking at them all.  This one is a Millefiori paperweight which translated from Italian means thousand flowers, in this case it was far more than a thousand!

My friend Bernie over at One Mixed Bag and I love taking pictures of empty chairs and benches, its a little competition I think.  She has some really great ones, like an empty chair on a little island in the middle of a river, I think that's my favorite.  When I was out with the hubby and the camera a couple of weeks ago he stopped so we could get a picture of one of the park benches near the shores of the big lake. Since I love museums I was thrilled when I had a chance this summer to go to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for the Art in Bloom festival.  Everything was beautiful, but I was struck with this piece, its called the Tiber Muse and dates from the 2nd - 1st centuries BC, the artist is unknown.  The sculptures tag reads "Although discovered in the vicinity of the Tiber river in Rome in 1858, the style of this statue's drapery suggests that it originated in a workshop in Greece or Asia Minor.  The Roman importation and copying of  Greek sculpture are well documented, from the time of the Roman conquests of Greeks territories in the 3rd century B.C. and throughout the imperial era (27 B.C. - about 396 A.D.).  The public exhibition of Greek spoils encouraged Romans to collect Greek art and commission new works in similar styles.  Displaying statuary of Greek origin or appearance eventually became a mark of one's social status and education."

While at the Renaissance Fair last year my friend and I stumbled across this set of friends. The horse had its eyes covered because of the flies and couldn't see so when the horse would whinny the pig would stand up and tug on its harness lightly to let it know it was there.
