This time of year I start to think about getting away from the winter blahs.  I took this picture a few years ago of FMNH PR 2081, most folks just know her as Sue, the T Rex at the Field Museum in Chicago.  Sue was 28 years old when she died, making her the oldest T Rex to date.  I love visiting Sue when I feel like I am getting old, she is a great reminder of what determination looks like.  Her bones have reviled that she lived though an injury to her right shoulder, a torn tendon in her right arm and three broken ribs.  These injuries appear to have happened at the same and during her life to be injured even slightly usually meant certain death. She also survived infection in her right leg and either infection or infestation of parasites in her skull.  She had arthritis in her tail and a case of gout as well as extra bone built up and stress fractures due to her massive weight.  Most people don't see her as an inspiration, but I sure do.

Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

The temperatures here are starting to warm up, but in December we had a real cold snap and this little Chickadee was in our lilac bush plumped up as big as it could get to stay warm in the cold wind of the afternoon.

I took this picture at a great French Bakery near Minneapolis when I stopped there for breakfast with friends after a day at the Renaissance Festival.  We all ordered Eggs Benedict but we each got different coffees.  They all tasted fantastic, but this one was by far the prettiest of them all.

The deal...

As many of you may know I am a member of Bzz Agent so I get to try new things from time to time.  The current campaign is for Green Mountain Coffee, perfect for my K-Cup brewer.  They recently rolled out a new line called their Wellness Collection.  In my sample pack I was able to try the Focus Blend coffee with its 50mg of L-Theanine and the  Antioxidant Blend which has vitamins A and C.  Having gone through a summer filled with Dr.s due to breast cancer I am a HUGE fan of anything with Antioxidants and with the holidays here I find I get more scatterbrained so the Focus Blend has been nice to have on hand!  Both have fantastic flavor and are more than enough to get me up and ready for the day, and even better they are both made using fair trade beans!  So what's the deal?  This line is only available on line through Green Mountain Coffee, and if you would like to try it you can use coupon code GMCBEWELL to get $3.00 off your wellness collection order.  While you are there be sure to check out the other great wellness blends of tea and the brew over coffees.  Really, anything from Green Mountain is great.

Oh, and if you are interested in becoming a Bzz Agent just stop over and click on the How it Works button.

Have a fantastic Thursday.

The birds of prey have been migrating all month and we have had a few beauties visit our yard looking for mice or small birds but this Merlin was special, at first I thought it was just resting but the more I watched I realized he only has one leg.  In the bird world that's not usually a big deal, UNLESS you need your feet to hunt with.  This guy, or gal, was doing just fine though, beautiful bright eyes, nice plumage and a good weight.  A good reminder of the things we can over come if we put our minds to it.

Looking for a way to hold onto your Summer memories through the Winter?  Check out the great deal from Snapfish:  40% off one photo book using coupon code NOVBOOK40, 50% off two books using coupon code NOVBOOK50 or a huge 70% off 3 books using coupon code NOVBOOK70.  This would be a great way to get pictures together as a Christmas gift for someone far away as well.  The coupons expire November 7, 2012 so be quick.

I hope you are all having a good week and to any of my readers affected by Hurricane Sandy you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Last month I went to the Renaissance Festival with some friends and got some really fun pictures.  This one of Captain Jack Sparrow in a nail biting conversation with a Black Pearl crew member was one of my favorites.

This is one of the last pictures I took of a flower in our garden this year before the cold set in.  It is a close up of a moon flower early in the morning before it opened for the day.  When it opens it is pristine white, but when it is still closed the bud is lavender around the area that opens like a pinwheel.

The deal...

This is the time of year we think about pumpkins, bats, ghosts, vampires and things that go bump in the night.  Are you ready to dress for Halloween?  If not check out Wholesale Halloween Costumes clearance section for some great deals and ideas.  Use coupon code SALE5 to get 5% off any purchase over $50.00 or coupon code WOW until 10/21 to get 30% off your purchase.  You can get an additional 8% cash back if you remember to shop through Ebats.  Want to save even more?  Check your closets for some fun ideas.  Imagine an old dress as a costume, with a little distressing and some make up you are ready to be a zombie fresh from the cemetery.

One of the fun things my hubby and I were able to do this year was go to one of our local fairs.  We don't do  a lot when we go, I love the colors on the midway (if you can call it that when they are this small) and the animal barns.  I have a special place in my heart for the merry-go-rounds and all the animals on them, but this one had mirrors around the top which made for a great picture that had an old and new feel with the colors of the fairground in the reflection with the background black and white.

The deal...

This is kind of a big deal for me, Ebates announced that they are offering 3% cash back at certain departments of Amazon!  Amazon is a place that notoriously does not partner with reward sites, which has had me questioning a lot of purchases over the years.  Now with this partnership I am hoping that is will grow to even more departments as time goes on.

I hope you are all having a great week, mine has been very busy; as is the rest of the month which has left me playing catch up with the blog and Facebook pages.  I wish I could promise it will get better soon but I think in all honesty it will be like this for a bit while I try to cram a whole summer's worth of fun into a couple of months.

Thanks for hanging in there with me, I really appreciate it!

We went to a local minor league baseball game with my sister in law and her family, since we were ahead by quite a bit we decided to leave early.  On the way out I stopped to take this shot of the best seats in the house.  Our home team boys were watching the other teams pitcher and it made such a great end of Summer picture.  Looking forward to a fun and busy Fall.

This picture was taken last September in my far garden.  It is a close up of a tricolored bumble bee on one of my Artichokes that I let flower instead of harvesting.  I was curious about how the flowers would look so I let one progress well past the picking stage and was rewarded with a beautiful almost neon lavender flower that attracted quite a few of the cold weather orange belted bees as well as a few late season butterflies and evening moths.  It was well worth letting one artichoke go past its eating stage.

I took this in our yard at the start of the month, summer is going by so fast and I missed a lot of it so I have been taking every opportunity to take pictures.  I loved the close up of this dandelion and by changing it to black and white it really brought out the intricacy of the seed heads.  Fall is right around the corner.

A couple weeks ago my husband and I were looking for something to do and decided to go up to the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota.  We spend a couple hours exploring Discovery World in Chisholm, it was a fun afternoon and we got to learn a lot too.  They have areas set up through out the grounds that recreate different settlements of all the different peoples that settled the area.  This picture is a classic settlement of settlers that came from the East Coast of the US.  This is a large home with two stories and a barn in the back.

This White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth was caught checking out my flowers in the back garden last year.  They are so fun to watch, and easy to spot since they are about 2 inches long.  They are one of the few moths that come out on nice sunny days.

Perfume is one of my indulgences, but I don't have a "signature" scent, I love being able to change my perfume with my mood.  While its a great idea in theory, its not cheep. I buy scents I like when they are on a great sale or have a B.O.G.O. going in department stores, but for the most part I get them online. Today's discount is from one of my favorite places, FragranceNet.com.  I like this site because they always have great prices on the scents I use.  When you go to the site there will be a pop up box asking for your email, they will send you discounts in the future if you decide to enter your information there, it will also give you a 20% off discount code, the current one good until 3/13/12 is TGD2E.  While you are there be sure to visit the 50% off page for even more savings, and remember, there is free shipping on orders over $70.00.

Have a great day everyone.

We have had large flocks of Pine Siskins and Red Poles at our feeders lately and I have been trying like crazy to get a good picture of them, the problem is that they are super fast.  I have been getting a lot of pictures of snow or blurred wings at the edge of the frame.  When I was scrolling through yet another 50 pictures taken out back you can imagine my laughter when I came across this picture near the end of on of the little Red Poles doing a face plant to get a seed stuck in the snow.

Last year we had snow which made everything look like a fairytale.  This is a view out my front window of my garden shed.  (It also doubles as a squirel hotel in the Winter) I'm not complaining, but it sure looks a lot different this year.  Hopefully this Spring we will get buckets full of rain so we don't have any issues with fires.
