Tastefully Tuesday...

Since Bernie has her blog up and running and looking beautiful, we decided that I would do something fun and different on Tuesdays.  I used to do a Monday meal deal, which was the hardest post to write, so I took a break, started doing the Meet me on Monday's with Java from Never Growing Old, and let Bernie fill in for me on Tuesdays.  Since I so enjoy the Monday blog hop I decided to keep that and move the foodie piece to today's spot.  Bernie will still be filling in for me when I am on vacations or sick or just plain lazy so have no fear and please be sure to check out her hysterical blog over at One Mixed Bag and follow her on Google Friend Connect, Twitter or via e-mail.

This weekend I had my friend Jen over to visit and scrapbook.  I kept promising her I would have Puppy Chow for the (no, not the actual dog food.....although in hind sight that would have been funny to watch).  Well, life being what it is, things kept getting in the way of our play date and twice it got postponed and of course twice her portion of the Puppy Chow got eaten by my husband and me.  This time I decided we better make it while she was actually standing in my kitchen to ensure she got her fair share and it didn't get attached to MY hips, its good to share ya know.  Well to make this magic happen I actually needed a couple of things from the store, more Chex cereal and some peanut butter, so I thought I would make Jen stop and get them.  I was super impressed she didn't whine, she really hates grocery shopping so I thought that may induce more trauma then when she had her kidney transplant a few years back, bit nope, she was just that happy to finally get some Puppy Chow at last.  So what is this infamous Puppy Chow?  Well you may know it better as Muddy Buddies because for some reason Chex didn't think it was appropriate to put the words Puppy Chow on their box, I'm not sure if its the implication that their food is somehow meant for dogs or the copyright infringement, maybe both, but here is the recipe for you folks to try:

Chex Puppy Chow snack mix

9 cups Chex
*you can use any kind of combination of Chex, Rice, Corn, Honey Nut, Chocolate, etc.
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Put the cereal in a large bowl and set aside.  In a microwave safe bowl put chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.  Microwave on high for 1 minute then stir together, the chips will appear to not melt but they do.  If you need a little bit more time microwave for no more that 15 seconds.  After those are mixed together add n the vanilla.

Pour the chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal and stir together with a large wooden spoon to coat all the pieces.  Put the coated cereal into a large plastic bag with the powdered sugar and shake well to coat.

Place the mixture in air tight containers and allow it to cool.

  1. I loved the "puppy chow" and was thrilled to finally eat some after your teasing me with it. My son said it was the best he ever had. Last night as I played on Facebook, I sat with the bowl of it in front of me. All of a sudden I realized I had eaten almost all of it. It is so good and you make it look so easy to make.My hips dont thank you but I do!

  2. Blah! You get to have puppy chow, I didn't. *sniffle* Michele will have to make it next time I come home. It sounds yummy. And anything that can make Jen go to the grocery store without bitching and whining, has to be good.
