Wednesday's learn and earn...

~WORD OF THE DAY~

mendacious  \men-DAY-shus\ ~ adjective

DEFINITION: given to or characterized by deception or falsehood or divergence from absolute truth

EXAMPLES: Liza wasn't about to fall for the unrealistic claims being touted by the mendacious car salesman.

"Don Draper, the creative ad man extraordinaire on 'Mad Men,' is so deeply flawed that his likability and his possible redemption are seriously in question. A man whose entire life, including his name, is a lie, Draper is a cunning man in a mendacious, predatory world of images." -- From an article by Neal Gabler in the Chicago Tribune, April 11, 2010

DID YOU KNOW? "Mendacious" and "lying" have very similar meanings, but the two are not interchangeable. "Mendacious" is more formal and literary, suggesting a deception harmless enough to be considered bland. "Lying" is more blunt, accusatory, and often confrontational. You might yell, "You lying rat!" in an argument, but you would most likely stick to the more diplomatic, "Aren’t you being somewhat mendacious?" in a business meeting. "Mendacious" can also imply habitual untruthfulness, whereas "lying" is more likely to be used to identify specific instances of dishonesty.

~THE REBATE~

If you're like us then you are slowly changing your light bulbs throughout your house to the more energy efficient varieties that are out there now.  (Although, I will admit that there are a few in my reading areas I am not willing to switch and have gone a little out of my way to hoard the old style bulbs because its a much warmer light.)  Right now Phillips is offering rebates on three different types of their energy efficient bulbs, $10 back when you purchase $30 worth of Philips LED products, $5 back when you purchase $15 worth of Philips Energy Saver CFL products and/or $5 back when you purchase $15 worth of Philips Halogená Energy Saver products. If you purchase two or three different brands you will get all the rebates that qualify making this a nice deal.  You will need to mail in the original dated register receipt(s) the UPC Symbol/Bar Code from the Philips energy saving light bulbs you purchased and the completed rebate form.  Be quick with this one the offer only runs from September 1, 2010 through November 15th, 2010 and forms must be received by December 31, 2010.

Have a fantastic day everyone!
