Well our weather has finally turned to Winter, we have high winds and snow. What better time than today to start planning what to plant this spring? One of the things I enjoy about this time of year is the garden catalogs that start to come in the mail, it really helps with the Winter dull drums. If you want to start planning your garden you can request quite a few catalogs free to get some ideas and see what will grow in your area, its also a great way to comparison shop, there can be quite a difference in price between suppliers. Also, if you don't mind a slight difference in plants you may be able to find a great deal as well, for example, if you don't have your heart set on pink roses you may be able to find a sale on red ones at another place. There is a great spot over at Ask.com that that their contributor Stacy Fisher has a compiled, it's a list of 48 free seed catalogs that I was thrilled to find all in one spot!
If you are looking for more information Burpee has a great area in their site that is all how-to videos, everything from their 2012 catalog preview to how to plant fall flower bulbs. If you are curious as to how your garden will look in the Summer you can check out Better Homes and Gardens free Interactive Garden Design Tool for an easy way to plant, grow and move your ideas around. Finally, if you check out the Clean Air Gardening blog there is a great list of 10 Cool Gardening Apps for the iPhone, this was put together in March of 2011 and is a good list, I am sure you can get many of the apps for iPad and the Android now as well.
I hope you all have had a great weekend, don;t forget to stop by tomorrow for the Make a Friend Monday blog hop.

There are some great swap sites on line too if you find a problem getting local interest. Hope you find some good information here. I will stop over today and say hi. :) Have a great Sunday.
DeleteAnd are you expecting high 40's again tomorrow--crazy weather! The reminder of planting things should tell me to get the inside of this place organized so that I am ready to head out at some point!
ReplyDeleteAndrea they were thinking that at one point but we are going to be in the teens tomorrow with more snow expected. Hard to think about planting but if I don't start now I will be left with what ever is left at the green house in the spring, its like a mad dash living up here. ;) Hope you enjoyed your weekend.
DeleteWhat a great post! I'm sooo excited to get some gardening done this year. Hopefully I'll actually have time. Thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteOh, this gives me spring fever! It's hot and stormy in Georgia already, so I'm kind of already on a spring kick, but the thought of gardening...::sigh:: it nearly makes me swoon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips!
I love this time of year when all the vegetable starts begin to appear in the markets. (I live in CA). I usually buy the starts but I might try seeds or maybe a combination this year. Nothing pleases me more than going out to the garden and cooking and eating what I bring inside. I just discovered this great book, btw, called Cook, Grow, Eat that instructs on how to plant and includes recipes. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteWe're definitely in spring mode here in Portland. One of my favorite seed catalogs is Seeds of Change- lots of heirloom seeds. Thanks for the good ideas!
