Tastefully Tueday...

Got your baking done for the season?  Well if you are done congratulations!  If not here is the worlds easiest cookie recipe, every time I make these they are gone within two days.  I grew up with my mom making these and they were always the first to go then too, funny how some things never change.

Cornflake Crisps

5 Cups Cornflakes
12 ounces chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter

Put the chocolate chips and peanut butter in a glass bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Remove the bowl and mix (the chips will look like they haven't melted because they will hold their form until stirred)  if you need to melt them a little more do it in 10 - 15 second bursts or you may over cook and break the chocolate making a gritty mess.  When they are done just mix in the cornflakes and coat them well.  Spoon the mixture out on wax paper or cookie sheets and let them cool.  If you live in a cold area you can always set them outside for a few minutes, that will do the trick.  If you want to present them as gifts you can spoon them out into little muffin cups.

Coupons:

$0.50 off Nestle Toll House Morsels
$1.00 off 3 Kellogg's Rice or Cocoa Krispies, Corn Flakes, or Crispix Cereal at Target

Today's no cook idea is from Restaurant.com, through 12/7 they are offering $25 gift certificates for as low as $2! Just enter the coupon code GIFT at check-out! These are great gifts for secret Santa's, stocking stuffer or a little something for yourself, also a great way to try a new place without spending a lot of cash.

Hope you are all having a great Tuesday!

Scrubbing up the savings....

I have a friend of mine who is looking for a fun and relatively simple craft type project for this winter.  Since she also adores her sugar scrub from Bath and Body I thought this would be a great project for her to try, its also super inexpensive compared to what you get in the retail stores.

SUGAR SCRUB

1. Natural oil of your choice, something like olive, grape seed, canola or apricot (Don't use baby oil, it will not soak into your skin and will clog your pores.)
2. Sugar of your choice; Sugar in the Raw has the right size in comparison to the retail scrubs, but you can use regular white sugar or brown sugar.
3. Your choice of scents, you can use perfume oils or aromatherapy oils.

Its that simple, just mix the first two ingredients until you have a nice slush consistency then add in a few drops of whatever scent you like to what ever strength you like.  You can even add some extras into the mix if you want, like lemon, lime or orange peel to add energy to tired legs, ground lavender to relax or ground ginseng to get the blood flowing.  You can also try different exfoliant options instead of sugar, table salt will do the trick but can be a problem if you have any nicks or cuts from shaving, Epsom salts can be great for the athlete to help relieve aches and pains from a workout, regular coffee is great if you have varicose veins because it tightens blood vessels (that's why caffeine is being used in some of the eye creams now), and flax seeds are great for very dry skin, as is oatmeal (NOT instant).  I have made this in the past and when I make mine I add in two or three table spoons of Vitamin E oil which you can find in most stores in the vitamin isle.

I found some great deals on the supplies you need, you can also usually find a lot of what you need in the dollar store. There are a few coupons for the oils, Pompean has $1.00 off 1 bottle of their olive oil, there is a $1.00 off a bottle of  Filippo Berio Olive Oil at SmartSouce, and there is a $1.00 coupon for Goya Olive Oil at their site.  Imperial Sugar has coupons for both their white and brown sugars on their web page.  There is a $1.00 coupon for Quaker Standard Oatmeal from Target (you may need to scroll through their coupons to find it).  There are a couple coffee coupons if you want to try that option, $2.00 off Eight O'Clock Coffee, and $1.00 off Caribou Coffee.  For your scent  Puritans Pride is having a wonderful sale on their aromatherapy oils, buy two get three free.

Now that you have your batch all made up you are going to need something to put it in, your only limited by your imagination here, but I would recommend plastic since you are making a bath product that is slippery.  The little bear bottles are fun if you have any left from your honey, you can even mix in a little honey into your scrub for extra moisture and scent if you like.  You don't need to be too fancy here either, you can use the new Ziploc Twist 'n Lock containers or check the dollar stores for something more fun.  This is also great for birthdays, get well gifts,  hostess gifts, the holidays or just because.  If you give it as a gift you may want to add a cute little spoon to stir the mixture together again when it separates from sitting in the shower or by the bath.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.

Sunday's Media Madness...

Recently my husband picked up a new CD at Target called Slash, the lead guitarist is not surprisingly Slash of Guns N' Rose's fame. I have to admit that although I was not a huge GnR fan I really do like the new album a lot. The amount of talent that is featured kind of makes your head spin, the CD features songs with Ian Astbury of The Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Myles Kennedy, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, David Eric "Dave" Grohl of Nirvana, Michael Andrew "Duff" "Rose" McKagan of GnR and Velvet Revolver, Kid Rock, Matthew Charles Sanders aka M. Shadows, Rocco DeLuca and Iggy Pop. Slash handled the majority of arranging and song writing duties and handpicked each guest artist to collaborate with on rounding out each track, which makes this album great, the different singing styles really come through on each track.  For more information on Slash, the new album or to watch some of his video's check out Slash's own website http://slash.ultimate-guitar.com/.

I was able to find the lowest retail price at Walmart for $10.00 plus tax and shipping bringing the total price to $12.76. If you look on eBay you can find a new copy for as low as $6.00 plus $3.00 shipping.

I will upload a picture of the CD cover when I get home, the hotel computer will not allow me to upload any images yet.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Thursdays picture perfect deal...

The picture...

This picture was taken looking up through the iron work of the Duluth Rose Garden gazebo.  The original rose garden was moved from the home of Mrs. John Klints and opened in 1965 within Leif Erickson Park, with 2,000 roses.  In 1990 the rose garden was revised to allow for the highway to go under the park and was reopened in 1994, it now has over 3000 roses and 12,000 non-rose plantings, including day lilies, evergreen shrubs, mixed perennials and an herb garden.

The deal...

With kids going back to college and living in drab dorm rooms its time to check out All Posters back to school sale.  Thousands of their posters are on sale starting at only $4.98, they have free shipping on orders over $9.99, just enter coupon code TAUPE in the area where is says  "Add Gift Certificate Or Coupon Code" at check out.  This is a great way to make a visual statement without breaking the bank.  To make your poster look even better you can find nice set of 6 Mainstay poster frames at Walmart for $34.00, that's only $5.67 each!  If you don't need 6 of them Target has a nice set of 2 Elite Poster frames for only $11.99, and Amazon has a single MCS Acrylic & Corrugated Back Poster Frame for only $5.95.  Posters are a nice in an office space as well because you can change your artwork when you get tired of looking at the same thing every day.

I hope you are all having a great Thursday!

At home spa specials...

As Mothers day gets closer folks start looking for a nice pampering gift to give. One idea is to put together a nice spa day basket. This is something I have even done for myself and it is a wonderful revitalizer.

Light a great scented candle, (if you don't already have one Candles to my Door has a ton of different candles from Yankee, Colonial, Beanpod, Woodwick and more and they are all on sale), put on a relaxing sound track (here is a nice free one you can put on your iPod of nature from Musical Relaxation, its a little over 11 minutes so just put it on repeat) and draw a nice fragranced bath. Bath and Body Works has their buy two get one free sale going on both their Aromatherapy products and their True Blue Spa line. When its time to step out of the tub slip on a super plush micro fiber robe for the feel of luxury. Overstock has pink and blue in sizes L to 2X right now for $46.99.

Onto facial care; the Yes to Carrots line is very nice, offering items for Dry, oily and sensitive skin types, and its reasonably priced. Though you can buy direct, you can often find their products on sale at Target, Walgreens, Meijer and Drugstore.com (which has the carrot body spa kit on clearance right now for $12.99 with free shipping on orders over $25.00). What I truly love about this line is that I can read the ingredients list and know what everything is, they also feature a lot of organically grown ingredients.

Nails next; You should maintain regular gaps between applying nail polish allowing the nails to breathe and reducing the possibilities of drying and chipping, but if your planning a night out there are many nice polishes on the market. I usually look for Nail Lacquer, it is a little stronger than just polish and lasts longer, OPI is one of my very favorites and is sold in many salons, I keep an eye out for when my local salon has a sale. If you are prone to dry skin and hangnails the Burt's Bees Cuticle cream is fantastic, it leaves my hands feeling soft and smelling great. I apply this after any polish because it will cause the polish to flake if it is on the nail before hand. Burt's Bees has a sale right now on their Tips and Toes kit regularly $13.00, now its only $8.00. The kit has everything you need to not only take care of your cuticles but your hard working feet as well. They are also giving away a free lip balm with any purchase over $25.00, just use coupon code WELCOME at checkout.

Next comes the make up, when I am looking for new make up I always check the sale page at Sephora, they also throw in free samples and birthday goodies which is always a nice surprise when my package arrives. Another good site is Beauty.com they are offering $10.00 off your next purchase of $60.00 or more, this offer is good through 12/31/2010. The coupon site Red Plum has a printable coupon for $1.00 off any Rimmel London product which can be found at Tartet and Walmart. If you think you need a little lifting and firming Garnier is offering a $2.00 coupon for their new Ultra Lift Pro Gravity Defying cream, just run your mouse over the lower center section and it will show the whole line, the coupon is the bottom link in the group or you can wait for it to come around on their splash page.

Finally comes the perfume, FragranceNet.com has tons of great designer scents at a fraction of the cost, they also have free shipping. If you use coupon code NAM48 you will get an additional 15% off your order. The other frequently used site is Perfume.com and they are offering a similar deal, enter coupon code LOVEMOM and you will get 20% off your order, they offer free shipping on orders over $50.00. I would recommend checking the price of what ever fragrance you like at both sites and seeing which will come out best for you.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Easter basket bucks...

Easter is fast approaching and that usually means family gatherings for Sunday services, Easter egg hunts and ham dinners. As you start to plan I hope this blog will give you some easy savings and fun ideas.

Most of my Easters involved getting up early to see what the Easter bunny left for me. Putting together baskets is something I have always loved doing and quite often its a lot less expensive than getting one that is pre-made. I love to go to Walgreen's for children's Easter basket items. There are printable coupons this week for 2 bags of Nestle Nest Eggs, Lifesavers Jellybeans and Betty Crocker Fruit treats. Walgreen's also has a sale on DeMet's original Turtles - 2 for $6.00 and Reese's king size peanut butter cups - 3 for $3.00. Target has great sale prices right now on Webkinz plush toys for younger kids, and initial pillows by Fashion Angels Luv for older kids as well as other stuffed toys for your basket.

If you are creating a basket for an adult (because Easter baskets aren't just for kids), then you can include things like a coffee and tea, wine and chocolate, or camping and fishing supplies. For the coffee and tea basket you can find coffee at several on line retailers, The Coffee Beanery is offering 15% off your order with coupon code CB15COUPONS until 3/13, Honey Bean Coffee is offering $4.00 of any order over $41.00 with coupon code 4if41 until 1/1/11 and Precious Provisions is offering 10% off any order over $60.00 with coupon code MCCOFFEE10 but this one is only good until 3/28 so you need to act quickly. Rogers Gourmet Coffee and Tea Market is a great place for both coffee and teas, they are offering 10% off your purchase with coupon code MCGC10, good until 4/15, and they have free shipping for orders over $50.00. Tea Rocket offers almost every brand of tea and using coupon code 1STTEA10 you can save 10% off your order of $25 or more of Stash Tea.

For the wine and chocolate basket there is a coupon for Wine.com that is good for $15.00 off your online order of $250 or more the code is MARCH15, or 5% off your gift basket order using coupon code MARCH5. Shari's Berries is having a sale on their 6 chocolate covered Easter strawberries with either a plush Easter bunny, Chocolate Easter bunny or an Easter apple for $34.98, regular price of $44.98 and using the link at Retail Me Not you can save an additional 15% at their site. Godiva has a couple of coupon available right now, code HOP is good for free shipping on orders over $50.00 and code SPRING2 is good when you buy 4 select treats you will get a free chocolate bunny, you have to look for the flower icon to find the items that qualify for the deal. See's Candy has two coupons also, use code A1020016 to receive $2.00 off your $20.00 purchase or code A1023333 for $4.00 off your purchase of $40.00 or more, they also have a free upgrade on their shipping until 3/31.

To put together the outdoor camping and fishing basket look for smaller items like tent stakes, lures, water purifiers, dried camp food and shorelunch. Gander Mountain has a great camping checklist that you can print out to give you ideas or tuck into your basket. Gander Mountain coupon code GME0318 is good for $15 off of $50, $30 off of $100, $45 off of $150, etc., they also offer free standard shipping. Bass Pro also has a coupon code for $20 off of a $100 order, code SAVE20A.

This weeks picture is from Southern Livings article on living Easter baskets, a wonderful gift for anyone that is into gardening or if your just trying to be green. Its a wonderful article with another way to be creative.

Hope this gives you some fun ideas to for a wonderful non stress holiday. Have a great weekend everyone.

Abundantly free apps...

Last week a close friend got an iPod Touch for her birthday, my husband, knowing how badly I had been wanting one finally gave the OK to use all the Ones I had saved all year to go get one. I opted for the 64G iPod Touch because I love all the applications that are out there and wanted to be able to make my grocery list and play any game I want if I get stuck waiting in the car or a waiting room. I knew there were a lot of apps but really, I was ill prepared for the actual vastness of how many there are!

In doing some research I found a wonderful site called TouchMyApps that has been so very helpful! I went though their lists of free apps and was stunned at the great offerings. One of my all time favorites is CardStar. I had mentioned this in a prior blog, you can put in all your reward card info and not have to carry all the cards around with you anymore, I was so excited that this was the first app I downloaded. My 2nd recommendation would be YPmobil, you can set the Yellow pages to your area and there is so much more in this app than just name, address and phone number! Along with all that you get local events with detailed information, browsing by category, a white board for your up coming plans and notes as well as being able to save your favorite places, there are even review of places that you select and an email function to send the info to a friend.

For shopping information both Walmart and Target have apps available. I downloaded Targets app which shows their weekly ad, clearance and registries. There is also a built in gift finder, store locater and a search feature. The thing I really enjoy about this app is being able to go into the weekly ad categories and narrow it down to all the items that are offering a gift card with purchase.

If you love games there are a lot of free games as well. There are the card games Uno and Black Jack as well as a multi level game called Dungeon Quest.

Today I am going to be looking at my TV apps, there is one for Direct TV which I have as well as one for TV Guide. I also found one for the Internet Movie Database, a site I use all the time.
Hope this gives you some ideas on what is available and actually useful for free apps and inspires you to spend some time looking at the fun stuff that is out there, the iPods and iPhones cost enough, you shouldn't have to shell out the big bucks for the apps too.

Have a great week everyone!!
